The research I did for my doctorate (Ph.D.) was on Hypnosis and Performance.   I routinely work with individuals to improve performance, be it, athletic performance, test taking or public speaking. 

Hypnosis is a “loaded” word.  Some of the individuals I work with want me to “hypnotize them and fix everything”.  Others are afraid that I will take control and tell them to do things that they would not normally do.   In truth all hypnosis is, is relaxing and concentrating. The same thing that happens when you are in a theater absorbed in the action rather than looking at the back of the head in front of you.  People hypnotize themselves, that is, they learn to relax and let their minds absorb positive cue and images.  As far as I am concerned all hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis.

When I meet a new client I usually spend a half hour or so of looking at the problem, its roots and the settings that created the anxiety.  In my office I guide people, (remember you learn to relax yourself) to slow their body down.  Once the body is slowed down and the conscious mind is turned off we can begin to replace negative tapes with positive ones.   All of this goes on a disk the client takes home with him or her.  The positive messages  can be played  at home daily and  wear on over time so the new ques and images become a positive part of one’s life.
